Weekly Folders/Classwork/Graded Tests
Each Monday, your child will bring home a weekly folder. This folder will contain all of the work that your child completed the previous week. Classwork will be in this folder. Children will receive specific
written and/or verbal feedback about the classwork they complete and turn in to
me. If something requires additional attention, I will work with the children or send the work home to be corrected
and completed. We will have various kinds of assessments in first grade.Performance tasks will be scored using a
rubric.Written tests that require multiple choice, short answer, or a short essay will be graded using a
percentage grade.Your child will be involved in the development of rubrics and checklists this year in order to
self-assess.Self-assessment strategies will be modeled and taught in order to increase students' independence and
understanding in their own learning. Please review all of the work in this folder and help your child with any corrections. This helps reinforce what I have emphasized in class.
You will also receive a weekly newsletter in the Monday folder. This
newsletter will keep you informed of the Georgia Standards of Excellence we will
cover during the week as well as any upcoming classroom or school events.
Daily Agenda
Your child will be issued a daily agenda. This will be our main means of communication.I will document
your child’s behavior in the agenda on a daily basis. I use Class Dojo for behavior management. If your child has owed 4 or fewer points then they have green for the day, then he/she will receive a a green dot in the agenda---I expect to see green and possible blue! If your child has owed 5- 9 points then you will see and yellow and 10 or more you will see red. If this is the case then I will write you a little note letting you know the situation and the consequence. I encourage students to go above and beyond the call of duty and try to be exceptional and owe no points! In this case a blue dot is colored in the agenda and the student will get to choose a prize! It is a great way to encourage the best behavior at all times. A weekly homework packet will be placed in the agenda each week, as well. This packet will outline the homework assignments for the week and provide lists of vocabulary and spelling words to be studied nightly.Remember to check the daily agenda for any important school or classroom information.
*Please refer to the agenda on a daily basis and initial on the appropriate day after
you review the information.Agendas must be returned to school every day.
Money
Lunch may be purchased on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis ($1.85 per day).Breakfast ($1.10 per day) will be served daily and may be paid for along with lunch. The money will go into your child’s account and will be deducted as your child goes through the line. Cash or check will be fine. You may complete and return a lunch form to see if you qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Ice cream money is separate from lunch money and must be sent in separately. I cannot accept ice cream money in a lump sum. It must be paid for on a day to day basis in the front office. Cost is one dollar. Students will receive a token to use to claim their ice cream at lunch.
*Please put all money in an envelope or Ziploc bag every time that it is sent to school
with your child. Place the envelope/Ziploc bag in the pocket of your child’s agenda. Please
indicate how the money is to be spent by writing on the outside of the envelope or placing a note in the Ziploc baggie. If money is not labeled properly it will be sent home with a note asking how it is to be spent. Also, place all absence excuses and changes in transportation notes in the pocket of the agenda because these notes must be sent up to the office.
***It is important to be as diligent as ever in making sure
your child is on time and at school each day. Please keep in mind though that a sick child is miserable at school. Let's do our very best to ensure that our students get the most out of their first grade year and that we make the best decisions for them!!!
