8:40-9:00- Reader’s Workshop-Mini-Lesson (Teacher Directed Reading) Mini-lesson-A short lesson about reading strategies we can use. This is also the time where we discuss what is happening in the weekly “blue” book story. 9:00-10:00 Guided Reading Guided Reading-This is the time when the class breaks up into groups with other students reading on a similar level. The students are given individualized instruction in guided reading. We rotate in our groups to our designated literacy centers. Our literacy centers consist of guided reading, partner reading, independent reading only, graphic organizers, vocabulary and word study, and independent reading/AR/library and others as the year goes on. Language Arts 10:00-10:40 Writer’s Workshop and Grammar/Spelling/Handwriting Journal Writing- Students write for 5-7 minutes on a given topic. This will help them be better prompt writers. Mini-lesson—A short lesson about skills or author’s craft. Writing time/Conferencing Time/Work time- *During the writing time, the students should be actively engaged in writing. They should be using the skills or crafts taught in the mini-lessons. During this time, the teacher will be conferencing and checking with students and documenting their writing concerns, questions, and/or behaviors. Students may also be working on a skill in spelling and grammar. 10:40-10:50-Calendar Math on the Smartboard 10:50-11:40 Math (Teacher Directed or Lesson)- During our math time, we spiral review each day in the math journal. We work on the Smartboard with the lesson for the day. We use manipulatives to show numbers and demonstrate our understanding of problems. We learn about various strategies for problem solving. The goal is for our students to become creative thinkers and rational problem solvers. 11:40-12:20 Math Workshop (Ability Math)-The children will sometimes call this game time, but there’s much more to it than just games. We have instructional math games that we use to help the children retain information and apply strategies they have learned. 12:25-1:00-Lunch 1:00-1:35 Recess-We go to the playground each day that we are able to. We have certain weather guidelines to follow regarding temperature and precipitation. 1:35-2:05 Social Studies- During this time we will be working on reading for information and understanding non-fiction texts, all the while learning about a Social Studies skill. There will be times when an instructional video is used to enhance our curriculum. 2:05-2:50 Specials Monday-Friday (Art, Music, PE, Media Center) 2:50-3:20 Science- During this time we will be working on reading for information and understanding non-fiction texts, all the while learning about a Science skill. There will be times when an instructional video is used to enhance our curriculum. 3:20-3:30 Story Time Clean Up and Pack up for dismissal. |

1 small plastic snap-close pencil box 10 glue sticks 6 2-pocket folders (pockets only, no prongs) 1 pair of metal safety scissors 3 10-pack #2 pencils 2 boxes of 16-24 crayons 3 stiff cover composition books Donations for Classroom/School Ream(s) of white paper (copy or typing) Colored Paper (copy or printer) Box(es) of tissues Bottle(s) of liquid hand soap and hand sanitizer Disinfectant wipes Baby wipes Ziploc style bags(quart, gallon, snack. or sandwich) Playground fun items (jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, balls, etc.) Treasure Box and AR Prizes Candy--Skittles, Starbursts, chocolates, M&M's, gummie bears, Smarties, Bubblegum, Erasers, Cute pencils Bookmarks, Small cars and toys **When cleaning out toy boxes at home, think about sending toys in good condition to school for our treasure box. :) |
